The Cambridge Children and Privacy

Photo: Kensington Palace/The Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge has committed much of her time and energy to early years and giving children the best possible start in life. Her three kids are incredibly fortunate to have two attentive and involved parents, a safe and nurturing home (or two) as well as access the best education in the United Kingdom. While the Cambridge kids do have an amazingly blessed life, their parents have had to work to ensure that they receive as normal an upbringing as possible given their situation.

William and Catherine have issued several statements through the years reiterating their desire for their children to have privacy as they grow up. Most major publications adhere to the request made by Kensington Palace not to publish unauthorized photos of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. While these photos inevitably circulate on social media, they are quite rare and the Cambridge children are given their privacy the majority of the time.

In exchange for their children's privacy being respected, the Duke and Duchess have designed and nearly perfected their system for allowing the public to see their kids in ways that they, as parents, feel comfortable with. They will sometimes talk about their kids during public engagements or discuss small elements of their personal life during interviews. William revealed that George loves taking ballet classes at school during a charity engagement and Catherine revealed that Charlotte loves Charlotte Potatoes during a special they filmed with Mary Berry.

Fans have come to know and respect the ways that the Duke and Duchess choose to share more about their children's life with the public. They have been consistent and transparent about how they want to raise their children and to give them the best possible start in life, which includes protecting their privacy.

Each year, like clockwork, photos are released on each of the Cambridge kids birthdays. As a a talented photographer, Catherine has normally taken the photos to be revealed the night before their birthday. The public have also been treated to Christmas Cards each year of the Cambridge Family.

William and Catherine have marked major milestones with portraits or controlled media presence. When George and Charlotte began nursery school, photos were released taken by Catherine for their first day. On the kids first day at Primary school, the public was treated to portraits as well as permitting a small media presence to capture the kids arriving for their first day. In addition to these photos the kids have appeared on the balcony at Trooping the Colour once they are old enough. This past year, George and Charlotte also accompanied their parents on the Christmas Walk. All of these milestones, portraits and appearances are granted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in order to ensure their children's day to day privacy is still respected while sharing some elements with the public.

So after six years and three children, fans have come to expect and eagerly await the glimpses of the Cambridge children that William and Catherine feel comfortable sharing. So as Prince Louis turns two tomorrow royal twitter is already speculating what time the photos might be released and eagerly looking forward to seeing how the young Prince has grown since his first birthday. xx

PLEASE READ: This post is only discussing how William and Catherine have elected to raise their children in Royal Life. Every parent has a different level of comfort with sharing more about their kids and that must be respected. What works for one family might not work for another family and this post is in no way commenting on how any other royals have decided to handle media presence in their children's lives. Thank you.
